Ametherm AS Series Inrush Current Limiting NTC Thermistors

Ametherm AS Series Inrush Current Limiting NTC Thermistors Designed to Withstand High Currents From 6 A to 50 A and 250 J to 800 J of Input Energy.

Ametherm AS Series ThermistorsOn July 24, 2013, Ametherm unveiled a fresh line of NTC thermistors engineered to mitigate inrush currents, capable of enduring substantial steady-state currents ranging from 6 A to 50 A and 250 J to 800 J of input energy across various applications. Endorsed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for guaranteed safety, the AS Series devices exhibit lower current density, quicker reset times, and a broader temperature range without derating compared to conventional inrush current limiters.

These thermistors, launched today, effectively curtail inrush currents to safeguard pre-charge circuits in lithium-ion batteries; variable-frequency drives in fitness equipment such as treadmills, high-speed computers, and processors; switch mode power supplies for plasma cutters and welders; as well as audio amplifiers, MRIs, and X-ray machines. Thermistor are temperature sensors which exhibits a large change in resistance proportional to a change in temperature. Offering a straightforward one-component solution instead of employing power resistors with timers and relays, the AS Series slashes expenses and significantly streamlines designs.

While traditional inrush current limiters endure approximately 167 A per square inch during the inrush current phase, AS Series devices are engineered to withstand 400 A per square inch. This reduced current density, coupled with a consistent temperature gradient throughout the disc, augments reliability by eradicating fatigue-induced hot spots.

The AS Series showcases Hot R ranging from 0.0074 to 0.380 ohms, resistance at 25 °C from .50 to 50 ohms, and maximum capacitance at 680 VAC from 500 to 1730 microfarads. Available with diameters of 30 mm and 36 mm, these devices are manufactured in the U.S.A. and distributed through IBS Electronics. Samples of the AS Series can be acquired within three to five days, while production quantities are obtainable with lead times of four weeks.

AS Series NTC ThermistorsEstablished in 1994 and headquartered in Carson City, Nevada, Ametherm specializes in inrush current limiting power thermistors for circuit protection in the power market industry. Ametherm offers a variety of thermistor types, including both negative temperature coefficient (NTC) and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistors. NTC thermistors have a resistance that decreases with increasing temperature, while PTC thermistors have a resistance that increases with temperature. Ametherm thermistors are known for their high quality, reliability, and diverse range of applications. Ametherm provides technical support to assist customers with product selection, application design, and troubleshooting. Renowned for offering some of the highest-rated devices in the industry, Ametherm provides the most extensive range of output protection available.
