Caddock Power Resistors

Quick Overview

Caddock Power Resistors

The Caddock Power Film Resistors, with power ratings up to 22 Watts, a maximum temperature of +275C, and voltage ratings as high as 6000 Volts, deliver performance capabilities that can simplify circuit design and reduce equipment cost and complexity. These resistors feature axial leads, making them versatile and easy to integrate into various circuits.

Details

Caddock Power Film Resistors provide all these features in a single resistor, ensuring full power and voltage ratings without derating. They offer non-inductive performance and high resistance values that extend the critical resistance value up to ten times. Additionally, they boast higher voltage ratings without the limitations of minimum wire size and spacing.

Furthermore, these resistors exhibit excellent long-term stability, with tests demonstrating typical stability of 0.05% per 1,000 hours over an extended lifespan. This high level of reliability makes them ideal for applications requiring precise and stable resistance under demanding conditions.

Micronox® Resistance Films

Type MS performance begins with Caddock's exclusive Micronox® complex metal oxide resistance films. These proven films have been used reliably for over 30 years in Caddock's precision power resistor products. The Micronox® resistance films are fired directly onto a ceramic core at temperatures exceeding 1400°F (760°C), demonstrating outstanding stability under high ambient temperatures, thermal shock, and high power densities. This unique approach to precision power resistors opens new design possibilities by providing a wider resistance range, precise temperature characteristics, and enhanced temperature and power handling capabilities.

Carefully Controlled Manufacturing and Test Procedures

Manufacturing Control

Type MS Resistors are produced under stringent manufacturing controls that include power conditioning, overvoltage conditioning, and maximum temperature conditioning. This intensive manufacturing process ensures the highest quality and performance standards.

Quality Control

From the certification and testing of all materials to the supervision of manufacturing processes, all Caddock Type MS Power Film Resistors are produced under procedures approved for conformance to Mil-I-45208 requirements. These controls assure strict compliance with quality standards.

Reliability Verification

Type MS resistors are included in the Caddock Reliability Testing Program, which verifies conformance to specification parameters such as Extended Life, Shock, Vibration, and Humidity on a periodic basis. Data from Type MS resistors can be compared by similarity to other Caddock resistor types, including Type ML, MM, MS, MP, MG, and MK, as they represent an identical combination of materials—aluminum oxide substrate, Micronox® resistance film, and silicone insulating coating.

Serpentine Pattern for High Stability

The patented serpentine pattern used in these resistors contains features that enhance stability in high-power applications. Most models are manufactured with Caddock's non-inductive serpentine resistive pattern, which allows neighboring lines to carry current in opposite directions, thereby achieving maximum cancellation of flux fields over the entire length of the resistor. This efficient non-inductive construction is achieved without derating any performance advantages. The result is a truly non-inductive resistor, comparable in inductance to a straight piece of wire the length of the resistor body. This design ensures faster settling times and minimal distortion in high-frequency circuits.
