Fair-Rite ring configuration provides the ultimate utilization of the intrinsic ferrite material properties. Toroidal cores are used in a wide variety of applications such as power input filters, ground- fault interrupters, common- mode filters and in pulse and broadband transformers.

Details

Fair-Rite Ferrite Toroids, also known as Ferrite Rings, are circular objects crafted from ferrite, an iron-based alloy extensively employed in radio frequency applications. These toroids serve diverse functions, such as shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and facilitating coupling between different segments of an electrical circuit. They play a pivotal role in reducing EMI transmission within circuits, thereby segregating components on a board. Moreover, they function as transformer cores, boasting low loss in high-frequency scenarios. By strategically connecting circuit segments to various sides of the ferrite ring, they ensure consistent current flow throughout the circuit. Furthermore, they act as inductors, storing and releasing energy as electromotive force within electric circuits.

Additionally, Ferrite Toroids are invaluable for suppressing common mode noise and radio frequency interference (RFI) in various electronic devices, including radio and TV receivers, audio and RF amplifiers. They effectively mitigate noise emanating from sources like treadmills, exercise equipment, fish tank heaters, oil heater pumps, fluorescent lights, motors, cable modems, DSL modems, and computers.

For enhancing the choking impedance of smaller cables, utilizing large-hole ferrite beads and looping the cable through multiple times proves highly effective. In cases of particularly stubborn common mode current or RFI issues, achieving a choking impedance as high as 5-10K ohms might be necessary. Employing multiple beads and multiple turns through each bead can yield higher impedances up to a certain threshold. However, at higher frequencies, nearing the electrical wavelength with the number of turns can lead to resonance in the choke due to stray capacitance and cable inductance, limiting the achievable high-end impedance values. Fair-Rite Toroid Rings are designed with a ring configuration that provides the ultimate utilization of the intrinsic ferrite material properties.  These cores are ideal for use in power input filters, ground-fault interrupters, common-mode filters, and in pulse and broadband transformers.
