AMP Incorporated, often referred to simply as AMP, was a major American manufacturer of electrical connectors, cables, and related components. The company was founded in 1941 and gained prominence for its contributions to the electronics industry. AMP's products were widely used in various industries, including telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics.

In 1999, Tyco International acquired AMP Incorporated in a significant deal that was valued at around $11 billion. The acquisition aimed to strengthen Tyco's presence in the electronics and telecommunications industries and expand its range of products and services.

Tyco was founded in 1960 when Arthur J. Rosenburg, Ph.D., opened a research laboratory to do experimental work for the government. Tyco Electronics is the world's largest supplier of passive electronic components and a major producer of active components. The AMP brand encompasses the broadest range of connectors in the world, including high-density, high-speed designs for leading-edge communications equipment, and innovative micro miniature circular plastic connectors that are more cost effective than traditional metal-shell designs. Tyco Electronics is now TE Connectivity. TE Connectivity offers a broad range of high-quality electronic component products. TE offers products from well-known name brands and several product categories including connectors/interconnection systems, terminal blocks, relays, electronic modules, circuit protection devices, fiber optic components, wire and cable, and switches.
